Rochdale went into this friendly
hoping to bounce back from the disappointment of last
weeks loss in the IFA cup.
Rochdale travelled to Lincoln with 13
players, Mark Woodall named the same side which started
at Preston except Simon Irving came in for the
unavailable Steve Crossley. Hudson and Evans on the
bench, Lincoln only had 10 players so Evans played for
Lincoln.
Rochdale started the game very well
creating several chances. Rochdale were on top in the
game but there were warning sign that Lincoln could
cause problems with their two six foot plus forwards.
The first goal came from a dubious
penalty decision. Kaminskas carried the ball into the
box before being tackled by a Lincoln defender who was
then judged to have fouled him. The referee awarded a
penalty which Milnes duly despatched. 0-1.
The second goal quickly followed with
good work from Milnes and Lloyd down the right wing.
Milnes got into the penalty area and cut the ball back
to Kaminskas who shot low and hard into the bottom
corner of the net. 0-2.
Lincoln had a few chances themselves
but good goalkeeping and defending kept them at bay. The
next piece of action again was in the Lincoln half.
Rochdale forced a corner which Kaminskas took. With
everyone expecting a cross into the 6 yard box the ball
was cut back to the edge of the 18 yard box where Milnes
connected with the ball but could only manage to hit the
bar.
Rochdale’s 3rd goal came
from a corner when Kaminskas crossed into the box.
Everyone missed the ball and it ended up with Paul
Veevers hitting a low hard drive from the edge of the
box into the corner. 0-3.
At half time Rochdale were
comfortably winning 0-3. All Mark could ask for was much
of the same.
In the second half both teams had
chances to score. Rochdale’s Harwood hit a shot from
about 35 yards which only just went over the cross bar.
Rochdale pressed for a 4th goal which
eventually came. Kaminskas hit a shot from the left hand
side which the keeper fumbled and Mark Woodall managed
to head in. 0-4.
Rochdale had a couple of penalty
claims turned down which most players thought were more
of a penalty than the one given in the 1st
half. Rochdale were unable to increase the lead and the
game ended 0-4.
This was a good way for Rochdale to
bounce back with a comfortable win over Lincoln.
