Rochdale Supporters FC continued their winning run
with a 2-1 win over Champions Preston in their first
visit to Heywood sports centre. Rochdale, fresh
from their 2-1 victory over local rivals Bury the week
previous lined up missing Paul Veevers and manager Mark
Woodall due to other commitments. The injured Steve
Crossley took the reigns on the sidelines for the game.
Dale bossed the first half and had several good chances,
with Ratcliffe missing a great chance in particular.
That would have given Dale a 2 goal lead after they had
put themselves 1 up from the penalty spot after
Ratcliffe was felled in the box. Higginbotham converted
the penalty. Dale continued looking to extend their lead
but it wasn't to be and the teams were level pegging
again when Craig Milnes brought down a man in the box
and it was 1-1 on the penalty stakes.
Half time came and went and Rochdale knew that if they
kept playing how they were in the first half they would
come out on top. Preston started the second half the
stronger but Rochdale regained the lead through a quite
superb right footed effort from Jan Harwood from outside
the box which flew into the top corner.
There were a few late scares for Dale, one in particular
from a corner which was only half cleared but thankfully
nothing came of it and the 3 points went to the home
side to keep the winning run going and also to keep the
team at the top of the IFA League.
